The Wednesday Dance Jam welcomes people of various training levels from absolute beginners to professional dancers.

Do I need to have previous dance training to take the class prior to the Jam?

What do I wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows for movement. A long sleeved shirt and full length pants facilitate floor work. Please avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that have features (such as buttons) that could cause injury to another dancers.

How can I pay?
Participants pay with cash, preferably using exact change. A sliding scale or scholarships are available for those in financial need.

Is there music at the Jam?
A musician plays improvised music from 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm. In the spirit of maintaining the energy of staying in the moment, there is no pre-recorded music during the Jam.

Is there a Jam facilitator?
A facilitator who is experienced in contact dance is present at all Jam practices. Please go to them with any questions and concerns.

What time should I arrive?
The class will start exactly on time. So please arrive a few minutes before 6:00 to participate. The Jam is run as a drop-in, so you can arrive any time from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm.

Can I come and just watch a Jam the first time?
You may come watch in order to see what the Jam is like, but will need to pay enterance fee.

Is the Jam accessible to special needs groups or individuals?
The Dovercourt Penthouse is on the third floor and there is no elevator. If you feel you may need assistance with the stairs, please contact Kathleen Rea at kathleen.rea@reasondetre.com and arrangements will be made.

REAson d'etre dance productions offers a sliding scale entrance fee for the Jam for those in financial need. We also offer training scholarships for anyone having a hard time affording the class prior to the Jam. To apply for the scholarship, email a blurb about your background and why you are in need of the scholarship to kathleen.rea@reasondetre.com.

What do the attendance fees go towards?
The attendance fee is put towards paying for a jam facilitator, musicians, studio rental fees, administrative expenses and insurance.

Regular individuals who love to move, business professionals, contact improvisers, professional dancers, musicians, poets, liturgical dancers, dance teachers, dance workshop facilitators, retired dancers, expressive art therapists and healing arts practitioners are among some of the types of people who attend the jam.

Are there any rules?
To bring no harm purposely to yourself, others and the studio space.
To conduct yourself in a responsible manner.
If an individual is placing the safety of others in jeopardy, the Wednesday Dance Jam facilitator will ask the person to leave.

How do I apply for a training scholarship?
Please note if you are unable to afford the class, you can apply for an RDDP training scholarship. To apply, email a blurb about your background and why you are in need of the scholarship to kathleen.rea@reasondetre.com.
Scholarships are available only for training and Jam together. There are no scholarships given out for exclusively attending the Jam that follows the class.

How can I sign up to perform in the After Jam perfomance nights?
Performances must be contact dance or dance improvisation. To sign up for a performance slot, email kathleen.rea@reasondetre.com.
